This weeks picture of the week is from Tinkoff Saxo who pictured Alberto Contador on his way to the start line of the final stage of the Giro d’Italia. L’Equipe’s chief cycling writer Philippe Brunel made an accusation of Alberto Contador using a motor in the rear wheel after Contador punctured and had a wheel change with Ivan Basso during stage 16. There has been regular allegations of motor use over the last two years, mainly alleging seat tube mounted motors similar to this by Vivax. I think this is the first time a journalist has outright accused a team of having a motor in the rear hub. I’m not sure the journalist would be too familiar with the workings and constraints of a rear hub but I will leave the reply to Tinkoff Saxo who probably had the best response without even really needing to say anything. Sometimes less is more.
tinkoffsaxoBikes with motors are great to have fun but not to race with #Giro @iamspecialized
