Canyon have launched its first disc brake equipped road bike the all new Canyon Endurace CF SLX. The Endurace CF SLX is a new model range within the Endurace lineup that has previously consisted of rim braked carbon and aluminium framed models.

The new Canyon Endurace CF SLX line-up has six models including a women’s specific model, all feature light weight carbon frames with one piece handlebars, hydraulic flat mount disc brakes with 12mm thru-axles and wide tyres. The frame is inspired by the Ultimate CF SLX but has a more relaxed geometry and room for wider tyres.

All six bikes use Shimano’s BR-RS785 hydraulic disc brakes with 160mm rotors front and rear except for the xxs size frame which has to use 140mm rotors. The 12mm thru-axles are retained by DT Swiss RWS (Ratchet Wheelmounting System) quick release.

The women’s Endurace CF SLX comes in either skydive blue or stealth black colours and four sizes and the Selle Italia SLS Lady Flow saddle.

Canyon Endurace CF SLX Aerodynamics

The Canyon Endurace CF SLX frame has been inspired by the Ultimate CF SLX that received and aero update last year. The Endurace CF SLX shares some of those design features and Canyon have been able to retain frame stiffness and still enhance the aerodynamics.

“Any gain in aerodynamic performance is usually offset by a loss of frame stiffness or a gain in weight,” say Canyon. “Although previously, we favoured boxier, aerodynamically inefficient tube profiles as they provided the best stiffness-to-weight properties, we now succeed in finding the ideal balance between stiffness, lightness and aerodynamic efficiency.
“To do this, we focussed on improving the aerodynamic performance of components most exposed to the wind, such as the downtube, and compensate any loss in torsional stiffness by bolstering aerodynamically neutral parts of the frame, like the toptube.”

What’s really interesting from the table below is the disc equipped Endurace CF SLX is only giving away an average of 5.1 watts over the range of tested yaw angles compared to the Ultimate CF SLX, that’s with identical wheelsets, handlebars, stack and dummy position.

The second interesting point from the graph is that there is an Ultimate CF SLX Disc on the way in addition to the Canyon Aeroad CF SLX Disc.

Endurace CF SLX Specs

You can read all the specs and pricing on Canyon’s site from the link here and a quick summary of the specifications are …
Endurance geometry The Endurace has a more relaxed geometry for long distance riding over not so smooth terrain.
Canyon H31 Ergocockpit integrated one piece shallow drop handlebars.
Comfort Kink the seatpost has a kink half way up that allows a shorter top tube and allows a more comfortable ride.
Integrated Seatpost Clamp the seatpost clamp has been moved down to the seat stay junction like the Ultimate CF SLX.
Wider tyres and clearance all models feature 28mm tyres and room to go up to 33mm wide tyres.
Thru axles and RWS levers as above the Endurabce CF SLX uses 12mm thru axles and DT Swiss RWS.
Disc brakes Shimano BR-RS785 hydraulic disc brakes with 160mm rotors.
Carbon frame light weight and aero.
