The Col Collective presents Passo dello Stelvio

As the highest road pass in Italy, standing proud at 2,758 metres, the Passo dello Stelvio needs very little introduction. From Prato its 48 bends carve their way up the mountain in what appears to be an endless road towards heaven, constantly switching back and forth the higher you climb.

Passo dello Stelvio and the Giro d’Italia

The Passo dello Stelvio is one of the historic mountain climbs of the Giro d’Italia and as one of Europe’s highest mountain passes at 2,758 meters it’s the highest point ever reached by the Giro and therefore has been the Cima Coppi on 9 occasions. The Stelvio pass was first used in the Giro d’Italia in 1953 and has featured in some of the epic battles of the Giro. Used as recently as the 2014 Giro d’Italia albeit from the easier south side when a snow storm made the stage almost impossible to ride.

Take a look at this great clip from The Col Collective as Mike Cotty rides the Stelvio.
