Canyon has unveiled the latest model of the Canyon Ultimate CF SLX, a bike Nairo Quintana hopes will take him to victory in The Tour de France that starts next weekend. The new 2016 Ultimate CF SLX features improved aerodynamics including a revised frame and aerodynamic handlebars. Canyon joins three other bike manufacturers that have released new aerodynamic models over the past weeks, first the new Trek Madone spotted at the Criterium de Dauphine, a new Scott Foil and the S-Works Venge ViAS at the Tour de Suisse.

The Ultimate CF SLX has been around for a decade now and this release is the fourth iteration, along the way the Canyon Ultimate CF SLX has been riden to wins in the 2009 World Championship road race by Cadel Evans, a Grand Tour victory at the 2014 Giro d’Italia by Nairo Quintana, as well as Olympic medals and Monument wins. The aim of the latest Ultimate version was a 10% reduction in aerodynamic drag without adding any weight, and a 10% increase in compliance. Canyon is claiming a 7.4 watt saving at 45 km/h from the frameset and a further 5.5 watts from the integrated aerodynamic handlebar.
Error, group does not exist! Check your syntax! (ID: 9)The Canyon Ultimate CF SLX already had a very light frameset so the design brief was not so much to reduce weight but to minimise the impact of the larger aerodynamic shaped tubes, the result was a 10 gram decrease to a medium frameset weight of 780 grams, the fork weighs 295 grams. The frameset features a complete redesign of tube profiles and sizing, the down tube now has a kamm type cross section, the seatpost clamp is now integrated, bottle cage positions are aero optimised, the fork is more aerodynamic and the top tube features a flatter profile.
