Spanish bike component manufacturer Rotor is set to enter the road groupset market with the announcement of the Rotor Uno hydraulic groupset. The Rotor Uno groupset will be released in the second quarter of 2016 and a finished version will be on show at next week’s Eurobike. Rotor has been manufacturing cranksets and it’s unique oval Q-Rings for a number of years now and will partner with hydraulic brake supplier Magura to complete the groupset.
The Rotor Uno hydraulic groupset has been in development for six years and will feature both hydraulic braking and shifting with internally routed lines and the shift levers will have single lever shifting to keep weight down. Hydraulic disc or rim brakes will be available. Rotor will become the fifth bike component manufacturer to offer road groupsets after the big three Shimano, Campagnolo and SRAM plus the recent announcement of the FSA Electronic Groupset.
Rotor’s co-founder and chief innovation officer, Pablo Carrasco, said: “Our initial idea was to improve upon existing shifting systems; we knew that our system was a small step forward with its increased precision compared with other cable-actuated systems. But we still suffered the same disadvantages of those systems, like friction, devolving inconsistent force over time, and other inconveniences.
“We knew that disc brakes for road were about to become a reality and we challenged ourselves to further the concept and apply hydraulics to actuate shifting as well,” he added.
